Edinburgh Drum Lessons – Fun, Professional Tuition for All Ages
Drum tuition near you with fully qualified drum teachers
Our Edinburgh drum lessons are exciting, fun and very rewarding. There's no need to worry if you're a complete beginner: many of our adult drumming clients had never played before either.

Most of our drum teachers also work as professional musicians. Some have played or recorded with acts including Chvrches, Ash, Amy Macdonald, Blue, Arab Strap, Sandi Thom, The Bay City Rollers, Echo & the Bunnymen, Christina Aguilera and Busted, performed stadium shows supporting bands like Metallica, and appeared on shows including The Tonight Show, Stephen Colbert, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Ellen DeGeneres and The Late Late Show with James Corden.
We've been teaching adults to play the drums for over 20 years, and we actually have more adult drummers attend lessons than children. Our teachers also have an excellent relationship with schools across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and the Scottish Borders, understanding exactly what's required for SQA National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher drums exams.
The modern drum kit only came together in the early twentieth century, when jazz drummers began combining bass drum, snare and cymbals into a single set-up one person could play. It remains one of the most physically engaging instruments to learn, building coordination between all four limbs independently: a genuine full-body workout as much as a musical skill.
Drumming is a particularly popular stress-reliever among our adult students, many of whom use their weekly lesson as dedicated time away from work or family pressures. It's rarely too late to start: coordination improves with regular, structured practice at any age, and our teachers tailor the pace entirely to you.

Drums lesson FAQs
Can I learn to play the drums on my own?
Up to a point, if you have the patience and discipline to practise, but a fully qualified teacher makes sure the foundations (sticking patterns, coordination, stylistic feel, dynamics) are set correctly from the start.
Can I learn to play the drums online?
Yes, through platforms like Drumeo or OnlineDrummer, but we strongly recommend a weekly lesson with a teacher who has real academic qualifications, PVG registration and live playing experience behind them.
Is it too late to learn drums as an adult?
Not at all. We have more adult drum students than children, and many are complete beginners in their 40s, 50s and beyond. Coordination builds with practice at any age.
