Edinburgh Clarinet Lessons

We teach children and adults of all ages, levels and styles. The most common syllabus is ABRSM Grades, though it's not uncommon to explore jazz alongside classical repertoire. Our teachers hold PVG Enhanced Disclosure certification and a range of impressive qualifications, including doctorates in music.

The clarinet evolved in the early eighteenth century from an earlier folk instrument called the chalumeau, and its wide dynamic and tonal range has since made it a mainstay of orchestras, wind bands, jazz ensembles and klezmer music. Beginners often find the clarinet more approachable than other woodwind instruments, since its single reed is more forgiving to control than a double reed like the oboe's.

We regularly welcome adults and retirees to clarinet lessons, many of whom played at school decades ago and are picking the instrument back up, as well as complete first-timers. Community concert bands and amateur orchestras across Edinburgh are always keen for clarinettists, making it a genuinely sociable choice.
