Edinburgh Flute Lessons
We provide exceptional Edinburgh flute lessons for children and adults of all skill levels, from complete beginners to highly advanced musicians.
Our flute teaching draws on internationally trained specialists with experience across the US and UK, proficient across piccolo, clarinet, bassoon and tenor saxophone as well as flute, with backgrounds spanning collaborations with the BBC and jazz composition.
We offer flute lessons from age four upwards, using graded syllabi from ABRSM, Trinity College London and London College of Music. As specialists in National 4 and National 5 school music exams, our students consistently achieve high scores and awards, with theory tuition available to complement the full SQA syllabus.
The flute is among the oldest instrument families in the world, with bone flutes dating back tens of thousands of years, though the modern metal concert flute and its fingering system were largely standardised by Theobald Boehm in the 1830s and 1840s. Its light weight and comfortable playing position make it a genuinely accessible instrument for adult beginners and retirees alike.

Flute lesson FAQs
Is flute a good choice for an adult or retiree starting out?
Yes, it's light, doesn't require significant lung capacity compared with some other wind instruments, and progress on simple tunes tends to come quickly, which many adult beginners find motivating.
One simple rate
£59 for a full hour, £36 for a half hour: the same price as every instrument we teach, in person or online. Pay as you go, no block booking or contracts.
